In order for me to make a 360 degree complete change in my life, My Dr. and I decided that it would be best for me to make changes in steps.
The entire first month all I focused on learning to eat right and count calories. This in itself is a difficult task to learn if you’re accustomed to the “Drive Thru” way of life. It’s also one that makes your family wish you lived elsewhere for a while because it is so frustrating when everyone else continues to eat what they want and you are trying so hard to be “good”.
Lesson # 1- get rid of caloric beverages. Drinking Water all the time is the ideal, but I do allow myself a diet soda usually once a day.
Lesson # 2- Spread your calorie allotment out through the day.
Lesson # 3- Breakfast is very important. Eat it soon after waking up to get the metabolism going.
Lesson # 4- Avoid Simple Carbs. White Bread, Pasta, Potatoes… if your body stores them.. they get converted instantly to fat.
Lesson # 5- Generally multiply 7 x # lbs you weight and this is the calorie intake you need to lose weight. More you will gain, less your in starvation. ( If you become very active, this may need to be adjusted)
Month 2
Time to add in some excercise.
I purchased the “Biggest Loser” for Wii game and started the 12 week program.
The game allows you to choose either Jillian or Bob as your trainer. You follow a customized excercise program for your level that becomes more challenging as you make progress. In the beginning everything is hard, you are sore and exhausted after every workout. I am now in week 10 and the things that were seemingly impossible for me to do in weeks 1-3 are now a cakewalk. I can’t believe how much stronger I am.
The new stuff they throw at me every day is very challenging though. There is always a pool of sweat on my hardwood floor. Probably the best wii game ever for the $. You will get your butt kicked each and every time. If you follow the program faithfully you will workout 4 days a week, and perform a challenge activity once a week. With a once a week weigh in.
Month 3
Added a little more excercise. Started doing the elliptical on the off Wii days. Giving myself 1 day a week to rest. Started out dying on the elliptical at 20 minutes. I can go at a steady pace at a 3 incline now for 60 minutes.
Month 4
This month I decided I need a goal that would really require me to push myself. I did a little research and ended up with the idea to run a 5K. I’ve never run a race in my life, much less run at all. In order to do this, I’ll have to train for it, and work for it. The date I set is March 6 2009 at the Deer Creek Classic. I found the Couch to 5K training program and downloaded the Ipod app for it. Heaven help me! I may have totally lost my mind!
